Seeking 5 Non-Equity Actors NY

I am directing a piece, in a festival of one minute plays, that goes up at TBG October 25 & 26th. Think "Dogma" for theater. I have been assigned 8 outstanding playwrights, each of whom has written a one-minute play that when threaded together creates a 10 minute piece.

I am seeking 5 actors with a real collaborative spirit, a willingness to dive in and generate material (one piece by Michael John-Garces will be a gesture dance with a timer and buzzer), who are eager to do something that is a little different. Viewpoints training a must!

There is no pay BUT there are 45 playwrights, 45 actors and 9 directors participating. It is about community.

Chiago people--would you like to train together?

I just moved to Chicago and don't really know anyone here, but this is something I tried to do before and worked really well.

If there's something I feel missing, it's an ongoing training in Viewpoints and Suzuki with people who have done the training (at least some training) before . I am hoping there are enough people in Chicagoland that feel the same and want to join a weekly session of training. The idea is to have the group meet 2-3 hours a week where we will train each other in a structured way.

Who will lead/facilitate the sessions? Where is the process leading to (just training or creating as well...)? Where are we going to train? The specifics depend on who the people are and how things develop, but once we have people who are interested we can set a plan and then all we need is a space (...). I'm working on that one, but if anyone has an idea please jump in.

I really hope to put this on its feet and moving (literally and metaphorically speaking).

Though, ideas, comments, suggestions are welcome.

You may have seen my earlier postings looking for a male actor for the project Tales from the Tub. I found someone, but I've now lost a female actress and am looking for a speedy replacement. If you are interested please contact me at rainbowgef@yahoo.com. Put SITI or viewpoints in the heading.

I am looking to fill the role of Pierre Bonnard's lover. Info about the piece follows.

Show dates are Oct. 17th and 18th in Bethlehem, PA at Touchstone Theatre with the hope of remounting the show in NY and potentially touring.
Rehearsals will begin Aug. 11th , 3 times a week up to show time.
We will be working for a week before the show in PA and actors will receive a stipend while we are out of town.

What the play is about: Tales from the Tub is a dramatic fantasy evoking turn-of-the-century France, inspired by post-impressionist painter, Pierre Bonnard, and his life-long model and companion, Marthe. This story is seen through the eyes of a modern day female writer who is entwined in her own complex relationship with a man. Told through a series of flashbacks, Tales From the Tub, evokes a world of bohemian cafes, Parisian artists, marionette shows, rustic country sides with hanging laundry, the scarcity of WWII, and daydreams of Marthe's own deep inner fantasy world. It employs puppetry, physical movement, poetic language and impressive original set pieces to lead the main character, to a more empowered place in her life.

suzuki text for youngsters

I have returned from the two week intensive in los angeles filled with a desire to continue my training by teaching my middle school students much of what I learned (practicing leon's edict that to learn something you imitate, repeat and then teach). But as I'm moving through some of the suzuki excercises I am wondering about the texts we used (dante and the cherry orchard) and their appropriateness for 12-14 year old students. Has anyone used other texts with suzuki for younger people with success? Or any ideas? I certainly can find my own but if others have already trodded this path, I'd rather take that route. We've already begun working with some of the basics of suzuki and viewpoint training and they are loving it.

Hello my extended family of artists!

I'm directing a pair of one-acts, two comedic fables of love and natural disaster, under the title Stormy Weather (individually Tornado and Avalanche) by Bret Fetzer and Juliet Waller Pruzan. Rehearsals start in mid-October with a 10 performance run from November 14 - 22. We will be performing at the Interart Theatre Annex at 52nd Street & 10th Avenue.

In Tornado a young girl's show and tell presentation explains how her parents met and fell in love through the divine (if you believe in such things) intervention of a pair of tornadoes.

Avalanche takes us to the alpine village of Bodenlos, where an unrequited love trapezoid threatens the entire population with the inundation of a snowy death!

Seeking Non-Equity actors for the following roles:

Buster (Tornado): a maritime clown who falls for the girl he finds in his home. Is also one of a three-person "chorus" in Avalanche playing several roles.

Carla (Avalanche): a woman of the world, she's traveled the globe trying to escape the passion that betrays her.

One other male actor (possibly older, stout and/or balding) to play another third of the Avalanche chorus.

Subjective Theatre Company Seeks New Ensemble Members

The Subjective Theater Company is currently looking for new members for its collaborative theater ensemble (CoLab) to co-create a new, socially relevant piece of theater. CoLab's inaugural effort, TELL, explored the nature of confession through four interweaving plotlines, and just finished a successful run in June.

We are seeking NYC based, fearless and smart actor/writers with equal parts acting chops and dramaturgical know-how to collaborate with us.

Joining CoLab requires a 9 month commitment, and will give you the opportunity to contribute to the creation of an original work as a actor and a writer. We plan to hold rehearsals two nights a week during the writing process, culminating in a full production in May 2009.

For the audition, you will need to bring an original writing sample (no longer than a page) that can be performed. We will also send you a few scenes to familiarize yourself with.

The auditions will take place on Monday, September 8 at 7pm. (We'll let you know the location after you submit your materials)

Looking for apartment to rent or alternatives in N.Y. for first week of November, then a room to let in Chicago for a few days

Hi all,

I hope the members of the SEE site do not mind me posting here for an apartment. But you are my only contact in the States. So I got to play the cards I'm given. I thought the forum Open discussions seemed like my best bet.

As I'll be touring the States in October with Druid Theatre Co. (check out 'Check out my show!' discussions page) I'm looking for an apartment to rent in New York after the tour is over, from the 31st of Oct. to the 7th, 8th, or 9th of Nov. For the first few days we'll be possibly 4 people (my parents and my sister) and then I'll be all alone, which is great too. I'm very excited to tour the States and discover New York, check out its pulse.
So if anyone can help me out here, I would greatly appreciate it, maybe even if any of you guys know of nice cheap accommodation in New York, that would be of much help, as I need to organize something for or with my folk's a.s.a.p. so as they can book flights.

I'm planning then to go to Chicago alone on the 8th or 9th of Nov. till the 13th, so if any of you out there in Chicago have a room to let for these few days, I'd would again very much appreciate it.

I'm very interested to check out the theatre scene in N.Y. and Chicago while I'm there, so if you guys have any suggests, I'm all ears. It could be possibly a great occasion to meet some of you whom I know already or maybe some new people. I'll be basically on holidays after the tour is over and I'm open to all suggests, well maybe not all!

Just wanted to let you know of the U.S. tour in October of a double-bill of J.M. Synge's plays - ‘The Playboy of the Western World' and ‘The Shadow of the Glen' directed by Tony Award winning Garry Hynes for the Irish Theatre Company, Druid, in which I'll be playing the part of Christy Mahon which I am thrilled about, not only to play such a fantastic part in such a great play, but to have the opportunity to work with Garry and the company of actors that she has brought together, and the icing on the pudding, I get to tour the States with it all.

So, here are the touring details all of which are in October

- Krannert Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: Fri 3rd and Sat 4th, at 7h30p.m.

The play concerns a family as they return to their beloved estate and cherry orchard just before it is auctioned to pay the mortgage. Though drowning in debt and presented with options to save the estate, the family can not stay above the water and the estate is sold and the family leaves to the sound of the cherry orchard being cut down.

Looking for actors and actresses with training in Viewpoints willing to deeply explore the play and collaborate. Especially looking for Mature actors and actresses.

Intern will have the opportunity to participate in the September 30-October 31, 2008 Suzuki and Viewpoints training. Must have expert knowledge of Dreamweaver and PhotoShop. viewpoints - level 1 introduces the basics of Viewpoints training and explores issues of time and space in the context of movement and speaking with an emphasis on creating work as an ensemble.

viewpoints - level 2 is specifically for those who have had previous Viewpoints training with Anne Bogart or SITI Company. This allows the class to proceed rapidly and use the Viewpoints to generate new work.

suzuki - level 1 introduces the basic theories, vocal technique and movement combinations developed by Tadashi Suzuki.

suzuki - level 2 is specifically designed for those who have a working knowledge of and previous training in the Suzuki technique with SITI Company. This is an accelerated class with a greater emphasis on advanced exercises and vocal work.

When I took Suzuki in school we did an exercise called SOARING. It's been a while, but a friend and I pooling our experience to try to regain the knowledge we once had of the training. He never did this exercise and I can't quite remember all of the pieces. It's a fairly basic exercise- one of the first I learned, but essential in my mind. Can any one help me remember the order of things?

Need a Choreographer who knows Flamenco and Viewpoints

Hello All-

I'm in desperate need for a Choreographer who happens to know Flamenco and Viewpoints. I realize this narrows the field down to probably only a couple of people in the world, but I am doing a project that needs one of those people.

I am looking for a collaborator for an upcoming Opera project called Ainadamar by Osvaldo Golijov and David Henry Hwang.

Ainadamar means "Fountain of Tears" in Arabic and refers to an ancient well near Granada where the Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca was assassinated by Fascist Falangist forces in August 1936. Golijov's opera tells the story of Lorca's murder through the memories of the playwright's muse, Catalan actress Margarita Xirgu, and incorporates Arab, Jewish and flamenco idioms in a passionate and melodic masterpiece."

This project is for Opera America's Director-Designer Showcase operated under the Opera Fund. There is a possibility for a future production (Spring 2009) but the collaboration is to create and build a concept to present designs for the Opera America panel and leading General Directors of Opera's around the country.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am creating and producing a new show called Tales from the Tub. Show dates are Oct. 17th and 18th in Bethlehem, PA at Touchstone Theatre with the hope of remounting the show in NY and potentially touring.
Rehearsals have already begun, approximately 3 times a week up to show time.
We will be working for a week before the show in PA and actors will receive a stipend while we are out of town.

What I am looking for: Looking for actors/ dancers/ movers eager to participate in a creative process. Working experience with Viewpoints, Le Coq training, or some equivalent physical theatre background. Should be willing to contribute writings developed in rehearsal, and have a strong ability to improvise.

International WOW Company (the creators of The Bomb, You Belong To Me, Memorial Day) is in the midst of preparing a new cycle of works and is seeking actors, dancers, musicians, politically active folks, web designers and editors to participate in an intensive process of creation and production from late August 2008 until January 2009.

FALL PROJECT :

SURRENDER , an innovative multi-stage action play directed by Josh Fox and adapted from the book "Just Another soldier" by famed blogger and recently returned Iraq War Vetaran, Jason Christopher Hartley (www.justnanothersoldier.com) funded by the Rockefeller MAP fund. SURRENDER, opens at La Tea theater and environs in October 2008. An intensive rehearsal process begins the last week of August.

SURRENDER is something truly unique in form: a large-multi stage interactive "action play" which aims to bridge the wide cultural gap between soldier and non-soldier, offering civilians a glimpse into the experience of an Infantry Soldier.

Actors will train in combat techniques with Sgt. Hartley, learning the basics of weapons, and house-to-house combat. Actors will play squad leaders in the upcoming production which will immerse the audience in the lives of veterans of the Iraq war both in Iraq and after they return from their tours of duty.

SURRENDER is a unique acting opportunity that offers real cross-cultural exchange with an often misunderstood sector of our society, the military. It is equal parts theater epic, Disneyworld-esque theme park and interactive call to social awareness. A documentary film of the production will be made throughout the process and performances.

SURRENDER needs: actors, technicians, interns, video documentarians, editors and designers, and web designers for paid and volunteer positions. Directing, dramaturgy and design assistant positions also available.

AUTO DA FE by Masataka Matsuda in INTERNATIONAL WOW's SPOTLIGHT JAPAN FESTIVAL

International WOW has been commissioned by the Japan Foundation to create the New York Premiere of AUTO DA FE by Matsuda Masataka, an incredibly powerful new play by one of Japan's leading playwrights. Opening in New York at the Flamboyan Theater in JANUARY 2009, and touring to Japan in the fall of 2009. A full length play for 8 actors.

ABOUT AUTO DA FE:

AUTO DA FE is Matsuda Masataka's reinterpretation of the Odysseus myth—a soldier named "Odysseus A" returns from war to find the emotional and physical landscape of his home utterly altered and unrecognizable. The play, originally produced in Kyoto and Tokyo, Japan, is a poetic dreamscape exploring questions of collective amnesia, life during wartime, the self-conscious erasure of history and national identity, and corporate takeover of our public and private space.

AUTO DA FE will be a part of "SPOTLIGHT JAPAN" a festival of new Japanese works produced by International WOW Company which will also feature works by Dan Safer/ Witness Relocation company and Jay Scheib.

THE FALL PROGRAM :

International WOW will be hosting it's first ever FALL WORKSHOP PROGRAM . The program will offer workshops taught by Josh Fox in Acting/Directing/Writing, Movement by Robert Saietta, guest training sessions by Dan Safer of Witness Relocation, Makoto Matsushima of PAPPA TARAHUMARA, Ron Russell of Epic Theater Center, Paul Barghetto of East River Commedia and others. We are seeking young theater and film makers (Actors, directors, writers) who are interested in creating and developing their own work, especially those who are interested in physical, expressionist and/or socially conscious performance. International WOW Company will host workshop productions of short performances by Fall Workshop participants throughout the Fall of 2008 and the Winter of 2009. We are also seeking innovative artists in the fields of web design, video production, web TV series, activism, visual art, design, music, anyone involved in Green Technology and design and those seeking to create new producing structures for New York City.
